This 10-week course covers the basic techniques used by botanical artists to achieve realistic, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing botanical art. An introduction to the history of botanical and illustration will acquaint students with the background from which they will flourish. Accurate observation and drawing from live specimens is emphasized. Step-by-step techniques are introduced, demonstrated by the instructor, and then practiced by students, including the “dry brush” technique which allows a botanical artist to achieve detailed finished art! Books from the instructors collection and examples of her work will educate students further in an appreciation of the art and technique.
