Charlotte (Char) Smith began quilting in New Jersey in 1977. Before moving to Massachusetts in 1985, she taught a beginner’s quilting class in an adult education program in New Jersey. She started teaching at Hill Institute in 1984. Char has been a member of Hands across the Valley Quilt Guild for more than 25 years. With her strong background in math, she favors pieced quilts more than appliqué. Her students at Hill Institute range from beginners to advanced; quilt styles are contemporary to traditional.
